Activity Group List, and the Tool to Contact Members Immediately

Purpose:

The purpose of this page is to facilitate the gathering of people of like interests—local SIGs, if you will—and the communications between them, enabling these members to contact each other with suggestions or on-the-fly activities. You will see several different categories that represent the interests generally of Manasota Mensa members. 

Instructions:

Let’s say you have an interest in specific group activitiy. Once you’ve found that list, you have a few options: If you’d like to be added to the contact list, simply type your name and email, and click the respective button, Please add my name to this list. We will manually make the programming changes here at the site when this notice arrives in our inbox.

To contact the entire group at once, this is a lot more immediate: Clicking the Email this list button, will open up an email in your mail client. As with any other email, simply type your subject and message, and hit send. That email will instantly goes to all those names in that category. For an example, let’s say you’re thinking, I wonder if anyone is interested in kayaking the mangroves on Lido Key this week? That button will immediately pose that question to everyone on the list, at which point those interested group members will respond by their own email, either to you directly, or with a Reply-all back to the entire group just mailed.

Summary:

We are a diverse group, but we do cluster into like-interest categories. Previously, it was almost random conversation that came up with ideas and suggestions for events. Now, it’s specific, and targeted. The Arts people can easily discuss ballet or orchestra, and the Fun people can discuss scuba diving or TreeUmph. It’s our belief that this facilitation will make our shared goal—to spend quality time with quality people—much more enhanced and immediate.

And if you’ve come up with an idea, contact us and we will be happy to put this in our calendar—both the newsletter 4M as well as the ManasotaMensa.com calendar, which has the additional ability to list on-the-fly activities.

Final caveat: please be aware that the program that runs all of this will send you monthly reminders of your log in and password. There is no way to turn that off currently, though if you are in multiple groups, only one monthly email will come, summarizing everything. And, while we will list up the names manually, you can follow those instructions to directly remove your name from a particular list at any time — or, simply email us. Also note that when clicking on “Email”, the email addresses are masked–i.e., underlying addresses to the members are hidden. However, obviously if you do email a response back to the sender, your email address is then known.
